Lung Compliance

Lung compliance in RDS infants is as low as 0.3ml/cmH2O/kg – 0.3 of a ml of air for each 1 cm increase in pressure. This compares to the non-RDS infant of 1-2mls/cmH2O/kg. Thus for a given volume of inspiration the greater the work of breathing.
