News from Nepu, Tibet

Our 3-year humanitarian project in Tibet  finished at the end of 2006….here is the latest news, after Lama Help in Action’s yearly trip to Tibet (August 2006).

The school

The school, finished in Spring 2005, started its second school year and the children are very happy and comfortable in their new school. The Government allocated the necessary budget for the necessary, yearly maintainance due to the hard Tibetan climate. The school hosts 6 classes (from 1st to 3rd grade), the resident teacher's home, one big room for school meetings, a warehouse and a kitchen. When it was first opened, it was equipped with chairs and desks and it has now been refurbished with books, notebooks, pens and pencils. All children received new shoes and a new uniform as requested by local authorities. The trees that were planted in the schoolyard are growing and already giving some shelter and protection from wind and sun. They are also already producing fruits..very important for people's nutrition, currently very poor in vitamins. In June 2006, for the second year, the school of Nepu won the prize as the best elementary school of the Region for the high quality of the building and of the teaching. The children learn Tibetan, Chinese, Mathematics, Drawing, Social subjects; Gymnastics. They can also play and spend time together in the large schoolyard

The Dispensary

The dispensary that was finished in late 2005 is now working giving primary Tibetan medical assistance to Nepu and to the villages nearby. A doctor from the Government clinic in Nye, the main one in the region, goes twice a week to Nepu dispensary. Both the traditional and Western medicine is practiced and the doctor has started to keep patients' medical records. This will be very useful to check patients' health and to undertake possible and necessary future therapies.
